Snarky Science: the Origin Story
I’ve always been that person. The one who’s curious about every new health and wellness trend. Some trends I tried and loved, others I researched and decided were better left for Instagram influencers. But honestly, trying to figure out what’s genuinely healthy these days is like assembling a puzzle where half the puzzle pieces are missing and the picture on the box keeps changing.
Take the Great Egg Debate, for example: one day, eggs are the heroes of protein-rich breakfasts; the next, they are cholesterol-packed villains. Then there’s intermittent fasting: hailed as the best weight management and disease prevention tool, until a new study suggested a link with increased odds of cardio mortality. And don’t even get me started on colonics and other detox trends, many of which seem like they’re straight out of a horror film.
Here’s the thing: trends are tempting, especially when they’re backed by big promises and glowing celebrities (you must have heard of Beyonce’s Master Cleanse!) But too often, these trends are fueled by hype rather than hard evidence. At best, they waste your time and money; at worst, they can actually harm your health.
That’s where this blog comes in. My mission? To cut through the noise and bring you the facts, delivered with a dose of humor, a pinch of skepticism, and a whole lot of research. Studying towards a Masters in Clinical Nutrition, as well as over a decade in the legal profession, and a lifelong habit of overanalyzing EVERYTHING, I’ve learnt how to wade through mountains of data and distil it into simple, actionable insights.
So, if you’re wondering whether kombucha really is liquid gold or just sour tea with a great PR team, I’m here to help you make better-informed, healthier choices, backed by science. Let’s figure this out together – one trend at a time!
